I had gone when I was younger, on family vacations to the Jersey shore and other occasions, but I was drawn in by the piece so much that I became incredibly fascinated with the casino culture of the town. I read a piece in Politico Magazine called “Detroit with a Boardwalk” and was so fascinated, that a few weeks later I made a trip there with a few friends. It was around that time that my personal fascination for Atlantic City began. The Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino closed down permanently on September 16, 2014. That’s the simple answer to this question, but the Trump era is a constant barrage of changing news stories, so much so, that the history of Trump’s casinos and his time in that business is often overlooked and forgotten. ![]() ![]() The simple answer to the headline’s question is Carl Icahn, the 84-year-old billionaire and supporter of President Donald Trump, the casino’s namesake. Update: The building was demolished on February 17, 2021.
